Harvesting Triops from their temporary pond habitat requires the removal of large amounts of dirt that is not returned to the pond bed. It is cost prohibitive to separate the eggs, so the eggs are packaged in a lot of detritus to insure that there are at least some eggs in the kit. This takes a heavy toll on the environment and could, in time deplete the ponds of Triops. |
